My name is Tori. I’m 16 years old and live in the United States. I am diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a term for the damage alcohol causes to a developing fetus in the mother’s womb is the mother drinks during pregnancy. Depending on when and how much alcohol is consumed, it can cause changes in the baby that can effect development, brain function, physical appearance, digestion, and things like the ability to process cause and effect, action-consequence, impulse and emotional control, the ability to understand abstract concepts like time.
The effects are permanent. It is a Spectrum and not all people with FASD have all the problems. When I was 3 months old I had my very first MRI. When I was 2, I had my first jaw surgery. I struggle daily with bullying and teasing. I have 28 diagnosis total most of them are FASD related . When I have my jaw surgery that's when they put 2 screws in the side of my jaw and my mom has to turn them at home 2 times a day for 2 months it pulls my jaw forward since my jaw has never grown since birth. I have to have this surgery Often and pretty soon it will be needed again, I have joint and wrist subluxation and exos (wrist braces) and Afos (ankle braces) to help me walk.
I have a wheelchair for when my legs and joints get tired and over worked and need a break from walking . My mom died when I was 2 and so did my grandparents all in the same year 2005 . I've injured my knee, wrist, and thumb and have not cried due to I do not feel pain like most of y'all do . My dog Bella died when I was 3-4 due to she was sick . I now have family everywhere and a dog Springer he's 6 years old now. I'm a strong beautiful and a warrior. Nothing can or will break me. Knowing I have Twitter and Facebook and YouTube family means the world to me and I love them.
